Many people smile as it creates a good aura to the people around. But some are embarrassed to smile primarily due to yellow staining on the teeth. This could give a smile less vibrant than what it could have been.
Enamel is the whitened protective covering of the teeth. It functions in the prevention of damage done during chewing, gnawing and the like. What starts of as a whitened surface, through time, becomes yellow stained. In addition, cracks are soon found along the surface and are being filled with debris and dirt from food and the environment. These major problems can all be resolved by teeth whitening done by trained professionals.
Extrinsic stains are one of the many types of stains found on the teeth. They are basically simple stains found only on the surface of the teeth. This minor problem arises from drinking too much dark beverages including coffee, smoking and eating certain types of food and if not resolved quickly may be impinged in the teeth below. These stains are easily resolved by just brushing one’s teeth regularly but for some difficult stains, teeth bleaching may be an option.
Another type of teeth stains are called intrinsic stains, which by the name implies stains forming in the interior part of the teeth. These are the more serious teeth problems that are harder to get rid of by simple means like brushing and even teeth bleaching. Aging is the normal culprit of these intrinsic stains, but other problems can also cause these such as trauma and excessive chemical fluoride exposure. Treating this major problem could potentially last for months to years but if done properly can still lead to a whitened teeth.
Dental health professionals, dealing with all these staining problems often recommend the in-office whitening. It is the best treatment option for teeth whitening if quicker results are aimed. Although expensive, this is the most effective and probably the safest as trained dentists are doing this treatment procedure. This is usually done by providing a protective covering to the gums followed by the application of peroxide that is highly concentrated to the area of the teeth for about twenty minutes to an hour repeated every other day.
For those who are in a tight budget, teeth whitening kits are most suitable for them. They are usually bought in stores or given by the dentists. Although, longer time is needed, they are also very effective and very convenient as teeth whitening can be achieved at the comfort of one’s home. These kits usually includes a mouth guard where the gel can be put on then leaving them in one’s mouth overnight.
In doing these kinds of treatments, risks are almost always present. These include temporary sensitivity to pressure and touch lasting for days up to months, gum irritation attributed to gel contact on them and finally uneven color of the teeth which is usually caused by procedures done by oneself.
So, if one has these stains from coffee and tobacco and if one desires a brighter vibrant smile, then there is no question that teeth whitening is desired. There are several dental health professionals at one’s service that offer these kinds of treatments.
