Below are a number of methods used to fix a gap in your front teeth:

1. A plastic retainer mouthpiece is an efficient method of closing the gap between the teeth. This method is a good choice for people who do not want to wear braces. This clear device is useful for the closing the gap on the top front teeth or on teeth that have experienced shifting.

2. Veneers are effective at closing the gap between the teeth and they can also cover teeth imperfections. Veneers are available in composite and porcelain. They are often bonded to the front and tops of the teeth. After they have been placed, they look similar to the other teeth so people will not notice any differences. Veneers are thin, sturdy, tough, and resemble that of artificial fingernails. Veneers can be expensive.

3. Teeth Effect Bands are relatively new on the market, but have been shown to be effective at closing a teeth gap. They are one of the cheapest options to closing the space between the teeth. 5. Due to technological advancements, using crowns to help close the gap in the teeth is not as common today. Crowns can be an effective treatment for closing the space between the teeth where the gap is quite wide. Crowns are durable and can be made of porcelain, metal, or a blend of metal and porcelain.

My Zoom Teeth Whitening Experience

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

Just the other day I walked into the dentist office to get the Zoom teeth whitening done on my teeth. I know it costs a little more to have it done at a dentist office, but I had heard so many bad things about getting this sort of work done at malls that I wanted to make sure I had it done right. Besides all this I knew the dentist and if I had any problems in the future I knew I could always get it corrected for free.

I had been wanting to get teeth whitening for a long time, but finally read enough reviews about Zoom whitening to see that it was both safe and effective. I had a few friends that also had this done and they seemed to be very happy with the whole process. And besides all that, they had really white teeth. And after all, that really is the whole point.

But exactly is the process of Zoom teeth whitening? Well it’s a little intimidating at first because the dental assistant will put a plastic mouth guard in your mouth that you will have to bite down on. This will actually keep your lips apart and will make sure that the Zoom light will not burn your skin. But it also can be uncomfortable and dries out your mouth as well. You will have to sit there for about 45 minutes to an hour in several sessions. They don’t let the light stay on your teeth for the entire duration. It’s more like 10 minute intervals.

It looks fairly painless to just sit there, and it really is. But a few hours later I felt some serious pain shooting through my mouth. You see, before they put the Zoom light on your teeth they put a gel on them which makes your teeth porous a little. This helps brighten them but it also makes them more sensitive to cold or hot. Even breathing air through my teeth was hurting and I had to take some pain medication.

The results of the Zoom whitening process were amazing. I was able to achieve 5 shades whiter according to the chart at the dental office. Looking in the mirror and smiling felt great when I saw how white they really were, and it only took me an afternoon. This is one huge advantage over other teeth whitening products which can take months to work, so you never really can see the difference.

The Advantages Of Teeth Whitening

Tagged Under : , , , , , , ,

Most of us want that white bright smile – just as you see in the movies. But we don’t always feel that it is possible. Everyone knows that an attractive smile is something most people notice, and will take you far in life. You will be glad to know that there is a lot you can do to get that beautiful smile with bright white teeth. The process is known as teeth whitening.

There are two approaches that you can follow when you decide on having teeth whitening done. You can either do it yourself at home, or go to a professional that specializes in teeth whitening. If you decide that you want to do it yourself at home, you should know that it can take much longer as the products you buy at a pharmacy are not as effective as the ones used by professionals.

Getting your teeth whitened by a professional is definitely the faster and easier way to achieve your desired outcome. The majority of professional teeth whitening systems make use of a compound of peroxide, which is applied to the teeth with a brush in the form of a gel. Most of these procedures make use of a laser to get the maximum effect from the compounds in the gel. In actual fact the laser is not always a laser. The word is just used to make the whole process sound more advanced. It is just a strong light.

Most dentists like to associate themselves with one specific product. So if you prefer a certain product, or have had some experience with it, make sure that your selected dentist can accommodate you. You will see that every one of these systems make use of special techniques, although there are similarities between them. Before any dentist can start with the teeth whitening process, they have to descale your teeth, clean it and polish it in order for the teeth whitening to be effective. They should also take before and after photos of your teeth so that you can see the progress and how effective the process has been.

Your dentist will then decide whether all of your teeth have to be whitened or just some of them. The teeth that don’t require whitening will then be protected so that the whitening product does not affect them. The rest of your mouth will also be protected so that it doesn’t come out shiny white!

One of the disadvantages of professional teeth whitening however is that it is quite expensive, and a lot more so than home teeth whitening systems. You should always keep those costs in mind. It does however, require fewer treatments and is much quicker. You will also have the peace of mind that it is performed by a professional. Someone that you can hold responsible should something go wrong.

So now you know that that bright white smile is well within your reach!

Dentistry Is A Very Fragile Job

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

Aesthetic dentistry being a fragile job needs the experience and expertise on the part of cosmetic dentists. A minute error committed during the process can turn out to be extremely agonizing for the client. Lots of risks are involved in the treatment process since there is total lack of any referral system or insurance support. All individuals must take their time when choosing a dentist.

As soon as you take the decision to go for cosmetic dentistry, contact a general dentist to assess the condition and shape of your gums, occlusion, teeth etc. The cosmetic additions made to your teeth depend on the health of your teeth and gums. So you should get the corrective treatment method done before going for cosmetic dentistry.

When researching dentist you should seek the advice of people you know and research the dentist on the web. Proper investigation should be done to find whether the dentist is competent enough for full mouth reconstruction.

The expertise of the dentist, the extensiveness of his practice, his skill in using latest dental technologies like intra-oral imaging and lasers, the comforts of his clinic etc have to been seen before determining to avail the service. Above all, his ability to handle a crisis has to be thoroughly understood beforehand to avoid inconveniences later on.

In addition to these, cosmetic dentists who are supposed to be members of American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, have to keep themselves aware of the most recent trends and technologies of treatment without fail. Also they should follow moral standards strictly. While having preliminary discussions with the dentist, you can refer to different stylebooks and internet available with the dentist to finalize the best designs for yourself.

During the initial consultation with the dentist itself, you should discuss matters regarding the diagnosis, the procedures to be applied, the costs for the treatment etc. All doubts regarding the entire process can be cleared with the help of the dentist. Easy payment options are offered by some cosmetic dentists, but loan providers are also there to reduce the financial load of the treatment.

Kitchener Dentists’ Guide On How To Whiten One’s Teeth

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

Many people smile as it creates a good aura to the people around. But some are embarrassed to smile primarily due to yellow staining on the teeth. This could give a smile less vibrant than what it could have been.

Enamel is the whitened protective covering of the teeth. It functions in the prevention of damage done during chewing, gnawing and the like. What starts of as a whitened surface, through time, becomes yellow stained. In addition, cracks are soon found along the surface and are being filled with debris and dirt from food and the environment. These major problems can all be resolved by teeth whitening done by trained professionals.

Extrinsic stains are one of the many types of stains found on the teeth. They are basically simple stains found only on the surface of the teeth. This minor problem arises from drinking too much dark beverages including coffee, smoking and eating certain types of food and if not resolved quickly may be impinged in the teeth below. These stains are easily resolved by just brushing one’s teeth regularly but for some difficult stains, teeth bleaching may be an option.

Another type of teeth stains are called intrinsic stains, which by the name implies stains forming in the interior part of the teeth. These are the more serious teeth problems that are harder to get rid of by simple means like brushing and even teeth bleaching. Aging is the normal culprit of these intrinsic stains, but other problems can also cause these such as trauma and excessive chemical fluoride exposure. Treating this major problem could potentially last for months to years but if done properly can still lead to a whitened teeth.

Dental health professionals, dealing with all these staining problems often recommend the in-office whitening. It is the best treatment option for teeth whitening if quicker results are aimed. Although expensive, this is the most effective and probably the safest as trained dentists are doing this treatment procedure. This is usually done by providing a protective covering to the gums followed by the application of peroxide that is highly concentrated to the area of the teeth for about twenty minutes to an hour repeated every other day.

For those who are in a tight budget, teeth whitening kits are most suitable for them. They are usually bought in stores or given by the dentists. Although, longer time is needed, they are also very effective and very convenient as teeth whitening can be achieved at the comfort of one’s home. These kits usually includes a mouth guard where the gel can be put on then leaving them in one’s mouth overnight.

In doing these kinds of treatments, risks are almost always present. These include temporary sensitivity to pressure and touch lasting for days up to months, gum irritation attributed to gel contact on them and finally uneven color of the teeth which is usually caused by procedures done by oneself.

So, if one has these stains from coffee and tobacco and if one desires a brighter vibrant smile, then there is no question that teeth whitening is desired. There are several dental health professionals at one’s service that offer these kinds of treatments.

Are Discount Dental Plans Worth The Expense?

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , ,

To tell the truth, there is not one good answer to this question. There are a lot of good answers and a lot of bad answers, depending on your situation and point of view.

Here’s what I mean.

If you have really great dental coverage already, a discount dental plan is worthless to you. It would be throwing money away to buy one. If you have some coverage, but not that great, a discount dental plan may actually save you money when combined with your coverage. Not always, but it CAN happen. If you have no dental coverage at all, then not having some sort of dental plan can be like playing Russian roulette.

I have a lot of friends who sell discount dental plans, and most can come up with a story about someone who held on to the info (brochure, business card, flyer) for months or even years, not doing anything about it until they had a toothache or needed dental surgery. Suddenly they rummaged through the kitchen drawer until they found the information and called the broker. The dental plan which had not been of value until then suddenly became priceless.

So, let’s accept the fact that for SOME people, not everybody, but some, a discount dental plan MIGHT be of value. Let’s see if we can find some ways to see if it’s something we might like to have, and what would be its value.

First of all, a discount dental plan is NOT insurance. In most cases, certain dentists have chosen to have themselves listed under the particular plan. In return for having their listing regularly shown to a large list of potential patients, they agree to offer reduced rates on their services.

They consider this to be a form of advertising in a way. If someone has the plan, they will look through a list of dentists which is smaller than the list in the phone book. If they like the service, they will probably bring their immediate family members in or recommend the dentist to friends or other family members.

How big are the discounts in these dental plans?

Just How Emergency Dental Treatment Varies From Normal Dental Treatment

Tagged Under : , , , , ,

Emergency dental focuses primarily on offering critical dental treatments and emergency dental treatment.

Call your dentist and explain what happened. He or she will see you the same day. There is no need to deal with unnecessary dental pain any longer. Most dentists leave gaps in their schedules to accommodate dental emergencies and will work you into their schedule the same day, especially for the more extreme cases.

The basic ‘not so serious’ emergency dental issues:

* Swollen gums

* Abscess

* Toothache

* Root canal trouble

* Lost fillings

* Loose crowns

* Broken dentures

* Chipped tooth

* Tooth decay

* Wisdom teeth problems

* Mouth ulcers

The ‘not so serious’ emergency dental issues are things that you could still bring under control should your dental emergency take place after office hours. When you have toothache, loose crowns, a cracked tooth or a mouth ulcer, wait until morning and make an appointment to visit your dentist to have your problem fixed, usually the same day. Meanwhile, take some pain relievers. This should help you get some short-term relief.

If you bite or grind food heavily, your tooth could get fractured and therefore generate pain when you eat or attempt to chew food.

A dental professional can fix a small fracture with a sanding disk or by applying a composite bonding putty.

Chipping a tooth usually means that you have knocked off a tiny bit of enamel, but doing so isn’t a reason to panic. If the dentin has been exposed, the damage might cause discomfort or sensitivity to heat or cold.

Pain affecting areas of the mouth, even when minor, can signal a serious underlying problem which could get worse as time passes. It is important to speak to a dentist as soon as possible for a professional evaluation to prevent damage to the teeth, gums, and supporting bone.

If you have a tooth come out unexpectedly, that is a dental emergency. Care must be taken not to swallow the tooth. To stop the bleeding, bite down on a a clean wash cloth and hold it there. If the tooth can be reimplanted inside of thirty minutes, the chance of holding onto the tooth is high.

Toothaches are annoying and can keep you up all night and make it difficult to eat or drink. A toothache is usually the result of an underlying problem such as tooth decay, gum infection or food stuck between your teeth.

Visiting the dentist once every six months and getting your teeth cleaned will definitely prevent tooth decay and gum problems and avoid the need for emergency dental care.

Dr. Xhoana Gjelaj has been involved in the field of emergency dental care for quite a while and has a web site relating to emergency dental care where you can get answers to all of your questions.
