Tonsil Stones

What are tonsil stones? The tonsil stones are the foreign “stones” that calcify in the tonsils’ crevices, and in which are termed as “tonsillar crypts”. .” They are white or cream in color and their sizes range from very small to very large even up to the size of a peppercorn. They’re mostly comprised of collagen, but they can make one have very bad breath, because the fact that they are comprised of waste material means that they emit gaseous substances like hydrogen sulfide.

This will make smelly breath a constant trouble, which can cause a person some problems socially and personally. Of course, it is never healthy to have bad breath, and worse, it’s not even healthy to have this type of decay occurring in the back of one’s mouth. Exactly why do tonsil stones develop?

Tonsil stones typically appear in folks who suffer from persistent bacterial infections; they, too, can also be a manifestation of poor oral hygiene, or it can be because someone has very big tonsil “crevices” and for that reason substances get trapped in. The tonsil stones could be composed of many or combination of compounds such as food particles, dead white blood cells, or mucous secretions that have begun to decay.

What are the possible symptoms of tonsil stones?

For adults, they are more susceptible to get these tonsil stones than children do and many don’t have any symptoms. On the other hand, they will begin to develop symptoms as they get bigger which would include tonsil swelling, sore throat, ear ache and also difficulty in swallowing. The most prominent and common symptom if one has tonsil stones is halitosis, or very bad breath. This can trigger problems not merely with health, but also in social situations, too.

Can tonsil stones be “cured”?

Tonsil stones are easy to remove, although this could be a problem and uneasy. Dentists and physicians, by way of example, suggest using a WaterPik and gargle, sometimes with hydrogen peroxide included.

An additional solution, certainly, is just having a person’s tonsils out. Nevertheless, this is bothersome simply because physicians are actually suggesting that the tonsils not be taken out except for as being a last resort.

There is a tonsil stones treatment available to those that need it. Tonsil stones can be very irritating and the larger in size the more irritating. Very small tonsil stones can go unnoticed for quite some time. The size of tonsil stones can be as large as a pea. It is thought that tonsil stones are linked to bad breath. Tonsil stones seem to be composed of sulfur compounds that cause bad breath.

The more common symptoms of tonsil stones include coughing fits, metallic taste, choking, throat tightening or closing and feeling like something is stuck in the back of your throat. Tonsil stones do not tend to afflict children and are more commonly found in adults. It is possible to have your tonsil stones diagnosed by using an X-ray or CT scan.

A tonsil stones treatment that some people use is to remove their tonsil stones by creating pressure so that they become dislodged from the cysts that they are in. Frequently individuals try to scratch or squeeze away their tonsil stones but if you are not careful you can cause your tonsils to bleed and make your throat very soar. You also can cause an infection. As this is a very unhygienic way of getting rid of your tonsil stones, you should thoroughly wash your hands or wear gloves if you can. It is best to squeeze a tonsil stone with a moist cotton bud rather than your fingers.

Besides your fingers you can also use a toothbrush to “scratch” away your tonsil stones. Though many people may try to dislodge their tonsil stones themselves they may have difficulties due to their tendency to gag. It is possible to overcome the gag reflex by numbing the throat with Chloraseptic or by flexing your throat muscles, raising the tongue and then forcing yourself to swallow. Usually you will create enough pressure to get rid of your tonsil stones.

Pulsating irrigation can also be used as a tonsil stones treatment. A low pressure setting is recommended. Doctors also recommend using warm salt water with pulsing irrigation to get rid of tonsil stones. You can fill a nasal spray bottle with the salt water and frequently spray your tonsils. Medicine droppers can be used to suck out the stones.

For severe cases of tonsil stones you can have surgery. Most surgeries will use an oral curette as this instrument scoops out the tonsil stones. Basically it looks like a long metal stick that has a small loop at the very end. You can vaporize your tonsil stones using a laser though an anesthetic is required. The most dramatic type of treatment is removing the tonsil completely though this is not recommended as a good course of tonsil stones treatment.

It should be noted that just because you have now removed your tonsil stones does not mean you have treated them. To stop them from every forming again you need to determine what is causing your tonsil stones and treat that. Tonsil stones tend to be associated with oral hygiene and switching to a good oral hygiene program can stop tonsil stones from reappearing.

Since tonsil stones are caused by the same compounds as bad breath eliminating these compounds through good oral hygiene is the best course of action. By changing to good oral hygiene you will eliminate whatever was causing them in the first place as well as keeping your teeth clean and healthy. If are having problems figuring out what tonsil stones treatment you should take, then you should ask your dentist or doctor.

Get Rid Of Tonsil Stones With These Natural Tonsil Stones Cure Tips

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , ,

The formation of tonsil stones or tonsilloliths occurs in the tonsil pockets. The debris that gets trapped calcifies and causes this condition. To find a tonsil stones cure one will have to have several tests done.

Tonsils are structures that look like glands that are situated in the rear of your throat. There is one on each side which is placed in a pocket. They are made up of tissue that contains lymphocytes. These are the cells which are present in your body that fight and prevent infections.

It is believed that these clumps of tissue play a role in the immune system and are supposed to act like a safety catch. It is supposed to trap all the bacteria that enter the throat as well as any virus specks that also wish to pass into the throat. However, they are not always efficient at doing this job. There are people who have had their tonsils removed for some reason or other and it is believed that they are not at any more risk of viral infections than those who still have them.

They have many small pockets where bacteria as well as mucous and dead cells are able to be trapped. When this happens, the debris becomes concentrated in the pockets. The stones are formed when the trapped waste hardens. This will happen mostly to people who are regular sufferers of inflamed structures. Many people experience the development of small stones, but it is a rare incidence to have a large stone.

There are usually no symptoms attached to the formation of the stones. They will sometimes show up on x-rays. The bigger ones however normally go together with other symptoms. One of the causes can be severe bad breath or halitosis. This condition is normally there when the structures are infected.

One of the most common symptoms is a sore throat. When you have tonsillitis as well as tonsilloliths at the same time, it is not that easy to ascertain if the pain is due to the infection or to the presence of stones. You would generally feel pain in the area a stone is sitting at, if that is the cause of the symptoms. Upon inspection, you may be able to see them in the back of your throat. In general, they are hidden in the pockets in that region.

You may have difficulty with swallowing. There are times when ear pain may be present. Tonsil swelling may also occur. There are those stones which require no treatment at all, particularly if they are asymptomatic.

A tonsil stones cure or treatment depends on the size of the stone and how much discomfort or harm it can cause. There are people who are able to remove these themselves with the aid of swabs or picks. To try and alleviate the discomfort of inflammation which often accompanies tonsilloliths, one can gargle with warm, salty water. Antibiotics are often prescribed to try and treat the problem. This may be helpful, but it is not addressing the cause of the problem. If the stones are very large as well as symptomatic, then surgical removal will be required. If the problem persists, the sufferer may have to have their tonsils removed.

Useful Steps For How To Get Rid Of Tonsil Stones

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , ,

Tonsil stones, medically referred to as tonsilloliths, are not only annoying and uncomfortable, they may be the cause of your bad breath. When these small white deposits form they stick to the tonsils and cause a horrible smell, which is mingled with the breath. People daily are looking for a way to get rid of tonsil stones naturally and cure their discomfort and bad breath at the same time.

In general, these are small white or whitish yellow stones, a bit smaller than a pea. A white tongue usually is a sign that they are present. A combination of different things are said to cause these to form such as food fragments, overactive salivary glands, dead white blood cells, and oral microorganism. Tonsil stones form in the tonsil crevasse in the rear of the mouth and if left alone may cause tonsil blisters. Some lucky people can cough them out or even laugh hard enough to dislodge and swallow them without knowing it.

A variety of methods are used to get rid of them, with some being a bit more effective than others. Stones come in a variety of sizes, the majority of them small enough not to cause discomfort so one doesn’t realize they are there. Although many may notice their breath is not so good and some frequent sore throats, which could be a sign of their presence. But the larger ones are noticeable and can cause great discomfort.

It can be challenging to remove them naturally, but definitely not impossible. A finger or a toothbrush in the back of the throat is one of the first methods many choose. A Q-tip, for those with strong gag reflexes, is another method to try to dislodge them. If a water pik is on hand, this is an effective way to use pressurized water to dislodge and flush the stones out.

Warm salt water, that is gargled with frequently, helps with loosening the stones and in soothing the inflamed tonsils. Because of the smell of the breath, many reach for a mouthwash to gargle with. A special mouthwash is available that uses salt water combined with some natural aromatic extracts that will not only soothe the tonsils but will also freshen the breath.

Another method that some choose which has proven to be very effective is irrigation. This is when a fluid is introduced through the nose and the mouth at the same time. Fluid coming in through both areas sandwiches the infected area and attacks the tonsil stones from two different directions.

A dentist can help in battling tonsil stones by prescribing antibiotics to be taken over a course of time. Antibiotics will settle down inflamed tonsils and help in dislodging the stones much easier. If after all natural ways have been tried, the only other step in removing them is through a tonsillectomy. But this is only used when absolutely nothing else as has worked.

Tonsil stones are not only annoying and uncomfortable; they can cause horrible and embarrassing bad breath. That leaves many with no option other than searching for a way to get rid of them. Natural methods like the ones already mentioned should always be pursued before you undergo any drastic surgery.

Get Rid Of Tonsil Stones By Using These Treatment For Tonsil Stones Tips

Many people have their tonsils removed at an early age due to infections. The tonsils are small sacks on both sides of the throat that collect poisons and bacteria from the body. Sometimes the contaminants they collect solidify and become hard. These are called tonsilloliths or tonsil stones. The treatment for tonsil stones will vary depending on how severe they become.

Sometimes when you get sick and look in the back of your throat you will see a yellow substance on one side or the other and sometimes both. Many people call them oatmeal, stink balls and a few other various names but they are actually stones that collect in the tonsils. They have a very foul odor and can make your breath foul smelling as well. Unless they are removed, the odor remains in your mouth offending everyone you come in close contact with.

There are times that you will simply cough these out. Do not be alarmed though as this is a normal occurrence. Your health is not in danger unless they continue to grow without being dislodged. This can cause the tonsils to become sore. Although tonsil surgery is a common occurrence in children, many doctors refrain from removing them in adults because the surgery is much more difficult on them.

There are a number of ways to rid your tonsils of these painful obstructions. We have all seen and even used a turkey baster for Thanksgiving but they are also useful for flushing these stones out of the pockets they occupy. There is just enough force from the baster to blast them loose where they can easily be removed and disposed of properly. Do not let the stones slip down the throat.

Another way to flush them away is to gargle with salt water. This sometimes helps dissolve them. It also helps ease any discomfort that they may cause due to multiple stones forming within the tonsils. The down side of this remedy is that it too leaves your breath with an odor. If there is no irritation in your tonsils, you may use other types of mouthwash for a clean smelling breath.

In the event you would rather remove them in other ways, cotton swabs and toothpicks can be used to dig them out. There is no pain involved in this process and only the implement and a mirror is needed. They are very easy to spot at the back of the throat and reaching them with one of these implements is just as easy. Again, it is not recommended that you swallow them due to the odor they emanate.

Tonsilloliths can be found in different sizes. You may see multiple small ones at one time or one large one instead. The size will help determine the course of treatment needed to remove them. If you cannot see them and the tonsils are enlarged, it may be time to consult your doctor for possible surgery.

The next time you are looking at your throat and see a white or yellow ball of oatmeal, decide what course of action you need to take. This is normal although not everyone gets them. Effective treatment for tonsil stones does not always mean surgery. Select the treatment that is right for you.

Tonsils are two small glands that are located on each side of the throat where contaminants that we have consumed are collected. Sometimes these contaminants will compact and form into hard balls or tonsilloliths. Finding an effective tonsil stones remedy is not always easy but knowing what to look for is.

Several remedies exist to remove these stones as well as prevent them from forming. Many people remove them alone while others grow so large that they must be surgically removed. These are the ones that can cause your tonsils to swell and be very painful.

We brush our teeth everyday and usually at least twice daily. You can use your tooth brush to help remove the tonsilloliths. You can simply brush the tonsils with your toothbrush in order to dislodge them from the crypts that they get caught in. It may take a little getting used to in order to overcome the gag reflexes but this can be very effective.

Eyedroppers such as those used to administer medicine to infants can also be used to flush them away. Because they are small, it concentrates the force of the water to exactly where you need it to flush the crypts. It effectively removes the stone without irritating the tonsils themselves. Although these stones will not hurt you if they are swallowed, there is an appalling odor that is associated with them and this can cause a case of halitosis.

Oxygen infused rinses may also be used to gargle or rinse the mouth with. There are a number of these on the market and can both freshen the mouth as well as dislodge the stones. The oxygen actually bubbles them out of the pockets they are nestled in.

The goji berry is found in Asian countries and is used for a variety of illnesses by these cultures. It is commonly used to cleanse impurities and contaminants from the body when drank on a regular basis. It can also help prevent tonsil stones from appearing. It is usually combined with other fruit juices and drank.

Diet is another way of preventing tonsil stones from forming. Dairy is a main contributor to bacteria in the body. Yogurt and cheese are actually made from natural bacteria so they help replace the bacteria that your body may lack. You may wish to restrict your dairy intake to help slow their formation. Sometimes solid foods can become trapped in the crypts of the tonsils allowing them to solidify. Changing your diet can also help prevent formation.

The last resort for any adult should be surgery. Surgery for a child is simple and they recover very nicely in just a week or so. When an adult has their tonsils removed they tend to recover slower and the pain is excruciating. It should be the last tonsil stones remedy that is considered.

Great Recommendations On How To Remove Tonsil Stones

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , ,

Tonsil stones, or tonsilloliths, are hard, yellowish, globules in the back of throat. They are formed when mucus from the nasal passages, bacteria and food particles build up in the crypts of the tonsils. Small tonsilloliths can be barely noticeable and are often swallowed or expelled in a cough. As the stones grow larger, they can begin to cause irritation or discomfort. Read on for some suggestions on how to remove tonsil stones without a doctor’s assistance.

The simplest method for loosing tonsilloliths is to curl back your tongue and rub it against your tonsils. If you can’t touch the stones with your tongue, try leaning your head all the way back on your shoulders, lifting your tongue to the roof of your mouth and swallowing.

Your instinct may be to scrape at your tonsils with a finger. This isn’t recommended as your fingernail could damage them. Instead, use your finger to gently press the base of the tonsil and push up. Better yet, use a moistened cotton swab to perform the same procedure. In either case, using an anesthetic throat spray first can help prevent the gag reflex.

If you prefer a gentle way to loosen the stones gradually over time, try drinking several glasses of a carbonated, sugar-free drink such as soda water every day. Gargling daily with a vinegar and water solution is also recommended.

An ear curette is a tool for removing ear wax that is often included in grooming kits containing tweezers and nail clippers. It has a tiny shallow spoon at the end that some people find useful for dislodging tonsilloliths.

Pressurized water sprayed into the tonsil crypts can flush out the stones. If you have a Waterpik irrigator, use the tongue attachment, adjust it to its lowest setting and aim it directly at the stone. Alternatively, fill a turkey-baster with water, point it at the stone and squeeze the bulb.

Some people have had success with using a medicine dropper to suck tonsilloliths out of the crypts. First fill the dropper with salt water and spray it over your tonsils. This may help bring stones to the surface. Squeeze the bulb of the dropper, point it at a stone and release. With luck, the stone will be sucked into the tube.

Some of the home remedies for getting rid of tonsilloliths are dangerous and should be avoided. Never poke at your tonsils with anything sharp (including your fingernail)and never use any tool that is small enough to be easily swallowed. If you feel any pain when attempting to remove tonsil stones, you are doing something wrong and should try a safer method.

Knowing how to remove tonsil stones is helpful, but it’s much better to prevent them from occurring in the first place. Good oral hygiene is the key. Brush you teeth when you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed. Brush or scrape your tongue to clean away bacteria. Gargle with an antiseptic mouth wash or baking soda solution daily. If you’re prone to tonsilloliths, you may also wish to gently brush the surface of your tonsils with a soft toothbrush to loosen any that may be forming.

Everything You Need To Know About Tonsil Stones

Tagged Under : , , , ,

Tonsil stones, which are also called tonsilloliths, are little, white globs that get stuck on or near the tonsils or in the back end of the throat. These irregular-shaped globs are made up of bacteria and mucus, and the end result is often a foul-odor. They are often trapped in small pockets that are on the tonsils and could be the main reason that one has bad breath.

Just a short time ago, many dentists were telling their patients that they were nothing more than food bits that had been left behind. The truth is, they are a build-up of bacteria and mucus and, while they carry no health risks, they can become troublesome. In fact, they can cause coughing and many embarrassing moments if you were to cough one up at an inconvenient time. If one broke in the process, the odor would be noticed by everyone around you.

While tonsil stones are only found in people who still have their tonsils, this is no reasons to go out and get a tonsillectomy. In fact, most physicians refrain from removing tonsils from adults, as it can be more riskier with older patients. Because there are no effects to having tonsilloliths, besides the odor, no physician would think of taking a risk on removing them.

Thankfully, there are ways to treat them without the actual surgical removal of the tonsils. As the stone tends to be made up of bacteria and sulfur compounds, you will need to use oral products that will kill the bacteria, such as oxygenating toothpastes and mouthwashes. Many people also find that tongue scraper can be effective for their removal, as well as using cotton swabs to remove them. If they are really bothersome to you, you may also be able to undergo a laser-type surgery to help smooth out the surface of the tonsils.

While tonsil stones are certainly one of the nastier things you can have, the truth is, they are harmless. Beyond the odor, they are not going to hurt you. However, if you find they are causing you to cough more than usual and you can not stand the bad breath associated with them, you can treat them. It may take some time to get rid of them, but once you do, to take precautions against getting them again, drink plenty of water to hydrate your tonsils, which will make sure any substances can slip right past your tonsils.

Living With Tonsil Stones Is Very Unpleasant

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Having to live with tonsil stones is not a pleasant thing to go through. I always wondered why my throat was itchy and scratchy all the time and then I found out that the reason was these little yellowish balls of bacteria that were lodged in my mouth. I lived with them for way too long before I ever decided to do something about it, and I found out that there were a lot of other people out there who suffered with the same thing.

The first time I found one of these tonsilloliths in my throat I had no idea what it was. I thought it was just a piece of food that got caught in there, and as it turns out, I was pretty close to being right. Tonsil stones are simply pieces of food and bacteria that get caught in tonsils and grow over time as they snowball.

I tried so many different methods to try to remove these stones, but none of them were that pleasant to think about. I tried using my tongue to pick them out, but usually they were too deep to really get access to them. And using my fingers or another object would only cause more irritation. I finally used a syringe which would squirt them out, but I still have to be able to reach the point of the syringe into that place where the stones were.

Although they are not harmful to ones life, there really is nothing good about a tonsil stone. But the smell is what really drove me to do something about this problem. I did not realize how bad they smelled until I had taken some of them out. This was the main cause of my bad breath and it was not going to covered up with some Scope. No matter how minty fresh my gum was, it was not strong enough to cover the horrible smell of a single tonsil stone.

You can try some of the homemade treatments I have seen online if you want. There are even a few herbal treatments from India and China that seem to work well for people. I read something the other day that said a person was completely cured from tonsil stones for good by using this 4 step herbal treatment plan, so it may be worth a try if you are sick of having this condition.

See some methods people are curing this terrible condition with home treatment for tonsil stones.
